Minister downplays pay issue

Apparently aimed at mollifying the defence services in the wake of the resentment expressed by them over the anomalies in the Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC) report, the minister of state for defence, Mr M M Pallam Raju, said the three-member committee headed by, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, to examine the issue would soon submit its report.
Asked if the Opposition by the service chiefs to the CPC report was a case of being “defiant”, Mr Raju said, “I would not call it defiance. The Services have a forum. They have been using it and meeting the defence minister regularly. We don’t see their actions as defiance of government.”
