Jammu and Kashmir : Govt. agrees demands with a written assurance - Strike Called Off.

The Joint Consultative Committee of employees Wednesday said the government has given them written assurance to fulfill all their demands by October.
Employees Joint Action Committee-K, Chairman Khursheed Alam and EJAC-Q chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani addressed a joint press conference here on Tuesday.
“During the three-and-a-half hours meeting yesterday, the government admitted that it had not fulfilled several demands recommended by the 6th pay panel,” Alam said, adding, “After the marathon meeting, the government agreed to fulfil all our demands in a time-bound manner”.
He said the credit for the success goes to the 4.5 lakh government employees, who fought for their rights and braved bamboo sticks, tear smoke shells and chemical water cannons.
Speaking on the occasion, EJAC-Q chairman, Wani said, “The government agreed to all our demands and formed a committee to extend the Pay Commission benefits to the employees, who were recruited after January 1, 2006. The committee will give its report within 10 days”.
“As far as other demands including enhancement in HRA, Conversion of COLA into DA and ending the pay anomalies are concerned, a cabinet-sub-committee has been constituted and it will submit its report by October” he said.
The employee leaders said that government has given them the writing assurances in this regard. “We are hopeful that this time government will not back out,” they said.
About the enhancement of retirement age from 58-60, Wani said the government agreed to their demand in principle. “The final decision will come up soon,” he said.
“It was only after the assurances from the government that we called off our two-day strike,” added the employee leaders.
