Maharashtra Govt staff call off proposed strike

Government employees in Maharashtra today called off their proposed strike which was sheduled to begin tomorrow, saying the state government has accepted 'most of their demands' including payment of HRA as per Sixth Pay panel recommendations from this month.

"We are not going ahead with the strike as the Government has accepted most of our demands," Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Mahasangh general secretary G D Kulthe told PTI after talks with Chief Minister Ashok Chavan here.

Representatives of the Mahasangh, Maharashtra State Central Employees Organisation, Zilla Parishad employees association and teachers organisations also attended the meeting.

The government has agreed to double the travelling allowance with effect from April 1 next year, Kulthe said.

Maternity leave for women employees has also been doubled, from the present 90 days to 180 days, he added.
