Ram Vilas Paswan on Thursday demanded implementation of the UGC package in toto for university and college teachers to maintain the academic ambience on campuses across the state.
Claiming that nearly 20 of the 28 states were already following the 6th Pay Commission pay scale, the LJP chief said: "In Bihar, university and college teachers are being forced to go on an indefinite strike from April 8."

Paswan said though chief minister Nitish Kumar had announced at least three times in the Assembly that his government would enhance the retirement age of university and college teachers from 62 to 65 years and that they would be paid according to the 6th Pay Commission, nothing tangible has happened yet.
Accusing the government of curtailing the powers of the chancellor, the head of all universities, Paswan said only academics of repute should be considered for the post of VC in the state.
