Non-teaching employees want UGC to decide pay scale

Non-teaching employees from universities from across the country today took out a rally here, demanding that the UGC revise their pay scale and they be given representation in university syndicates and senates.
Their demands also included putting an end to the practice of casual and contractual employment in the varsities and raising public funding in the higher education sector.
The 'march to Parliament' was held under the banner of All India University Employees? Confederation which claimed that employees from about 200 universities participated" in it.
"The confederation also demanded setting up of a review committee by UGC immediately to look into the demands for revised pay scale," said president of the federation Bhabani Hota in a statement.
Basudev Acharya of CPI(M), LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan and other leaders others addressed the rally.
