Kerala Ninth Pay commission : Govt. orders likely tomorrow, doctors unhappy, in agitation.

It is learnt from reliable sources that the Kerala Govt. is likely sanction pay hike in today's cabinet meeting and to issue Govt. Order tomorrow, on 24th February implementing pay hike as per pay commission recommendation.

KGMOA announces non-cooperation stir

Doctors working under the Kerala Health Services will go on an indefinite non-cooperation strike from February 27 against the government failure to take up their grievances with the Ninth Pay Commission, the Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) has said.
However, the strike would not affect patient care activities, the KGMOA said in a statement here on Tuesday.
Fails to keep promise
In May 2008, following a long agitation, the government had sanctioned special pay and special allowance for doctors, promising that this would be included in the basic pay when the final proposals of the Ninth Pay Commission are submitted. The government order regarding the same had also said that the government would incorporate this in the terms of reference of the next pay revision commission.
The KGMOA said that when the Ninth Pay Commission was constituted, the association had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister requesting him to initiate necessary steps to include the case of health service doctors in the terms of reference of the commission. But the government did not consider this, the KGMOA said.
Association plea
Though the KGMOA represented their case directly before the commission and appealed that the special pay and special allowance be included in the basic pay of doctors, this request too was ignored.
The special pay and special allowance had been retained as such by the commission in its recommendations, despite the government promises to the contrary, the KGMOA said.
The association said the pay scales for doctors in the specialty and administrative cadres had not been restructured.
This was another breach of promise by the government, the KGMOA said.
Emergency meet
At an emergency State committee meeting on Sunday, the KGMOA decided to go on an indefinite non-cooperation strike if the government did not redress their grievances before the pay commission orders were released on February 24.
