BEST announces Rs 5,000 Diwali bonus for its employees

Mumbai, Oct 20 (PTI) The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) today announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 5,000 for its 41,000 workers.
The decision was taken after the BEST committee meeting here.
"Rs 5,000 bonus and Rs 5,000 as arrears would be given to 41,000 BEST workers," BEST chairman Sunil Shinde told reporters here.

The decision, which will add a burden of over Rs 40 crore on the civic transport and power supplying body, was not an easy one as the BEST is going through a financial crunch, he said.
However, the general manager and the BEST committee members deliberated on the issue for the last 2-3 days and a decision was taken after that, Shinde said.
"We have to keep our workers happy. And on the occasion of Diwali the amount will be given, which is a good news."
Shinde further said BEST bus passengers or power consumers won''t have to face the brunt of the financial crunch.
