This week may bring cheer to central employees and pensioners

Update on 26.02.2014 : As per some leading newspapers, cabinet is going to meet on Friday, the 28th Feb and likely to clear at least the retirement age hike to 62 years and 10% D.A. from 01.01.2014. The retirement age hike, if approved, is going to take effect from 01.03.2014. So, those going to retire on 28th February 2014 will definitely miss the bus.

Earlier News :
Central Govt. employees and pensioners will find reasons to celebrate this week. The union cabinet is likely to clear some long awaited demands for it's staff in the next meeting later this week The F.M., currently on foreign tour, likely to return India on 26th February and after which cabinet meeting is likely to take place. According to information available with us, merger of 50% D.A., an additional hike of 10% D.A. from 01.01.2014, granting of Interim Relief and enhancing retirement age to 62 years are under the consideration of Govt. and some of these are to be approved in the next cabinet meeting.
As the notification of loksabha poll may be issued in the first week of March, this would be the last cabinet meeting before the code of conduct comes into force. So the central employees and pensioners may definitely hope for some bonanza to be announced this week.

CAN ANYONE THROW LIGHT UPON THE FATE OF THE REPORT OF THE PARLIAMENTARY STANDING COMMITTEE ON SOCIAL JUSTICE & EMPOWERMENT HEADED BY SRI HEMANANDA BISWAL WHICH WAS TABLED AT THE LOKSABHA ON 7/2/14 ? AS EVERYONE IS AWARE THE REPORT RECOMMENDED RAISING OF CENTRAL GOVT. RETIREMENT AGE UPTO 65.IS THE CENTRAL GOVT/CABINET GOING TO TAKE A CALL ON THIS REPORT ? THE ISSUE HAS BECOME A SOCIAL ISSUE WITH SUBMISSION OF THE PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE REPORT AS STATED ABOVE. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE EMPLOYEES CONFEDERATION TAKE UP THIS ISSUE, IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE COMMITTEE REPORT,BEFORE THE GOVT. WHOEVER IS THERE.

50% D.A should be merged w.e.f. 1.1.2011 and arrears should be paid for HRA as well. MACP should also be considered for employees who refused promotion because the promoted post is in a place that is far away from the present post of working, like 1000kms away. This MACP can be granted a year later than that is due date as was done in the early years when ACP was introduced.

Increasing retirement age to 62 is good news . especially to CGHS & other CHS doctors. Most of us are fit and active in medical profession. We are not used to the commercial private practice till retirement. Retirement drives them to such practices, some doctors like me may not like/ not good . Anticipating the hike I thank Congress GOvt.

It is important to raise the age of retirement. During earlier days people used to complete school or at the most college and start working. Things are changing now, schools are upto class 12 , college degrees are becoming 4 years and every person is taking up a second degree. In academic areas Ph.D was taken up after joining but today most teaching and research faculty completes the reasearch degree or is on the verge of completion. With longevity increasing it is hard on the government or insurance companies to bear pensions therefore 65 is the bare minimum that should be kept for retirement.
