UP teachers demand UGC scale with effect from 1.1.2006 as per UGC

A delegation of Federation of UP University College Teachers' Association (FUUPCTA) on Monday met PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui to press  their demand for implementation of revised pay scales for the higher education teachers in UP as recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The state govt. has announced to implement the revised scales but it will be paid from December 2008 instead of January 2006 as recommended by the UGC. Led by FUUPCTA president Ghanshyam Singh and general secretary JN Shukla, the delegation also handed over a memorandum to the minister requesting him to ensure that teachers get their due.

The pay scales of higher education teachers have been revised by the UGC as it has been done for government employees on the basis of the recommendations of the pay commission. While 80% of the amount for the increase in salary  is given by the UGC, 20% is borne by the state government. UGC has recommended new scales with effect from January 2006, whereas the government is giving benefits to teachers from December 2008 onwards.

The delegation said the government should amend its order and make it effective from January 2006. They also demanded that government should increase the retirement age of teachers from 62 to 65 years as recommended by the UGC in the new scales. Further, the UGC has directed state governments to pay 40% of the arrears from January 2006 in the current financial year and the remaining in subsequent years.
