Karnataka : Interim relief for state employees put on hold

State government employees, who are looking forward to a Diwali gift in terms of a fatter pay packet, will have to wait for a while.

Additional expenses that the state has to incur in meeting circumstances arising out of drought in some parts and flood-like situation in other parts of the state, and need for more discussions with Karnataka State Government Employees' Association on this issue has delayed a government response.Chief minister asserted that BJP government in Karnataka is proactive in meeting aspirations of its employees in the last 3-1/2 years. He said the government has had one round of discussion with the association office bearers on giving interim relief to employees. "Since the president of the association is on a foreign tour, the government will hold discussions with him and then come to a decision," Gowda said.

Interacting with reporters after an extensive meeting with elected representatives and officials of DK and Udupi on Tuesday, Gowda said, "The state government was in the forefront of implementing the move to provide Fifth Pay Commission scales to its employees, and will not hesitate to take a similar decision with the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. We are with the employees and they are with us," CM said.

Lower rung state government employees, especially in police department say here is lot of difference in basic pay given to employees at entry level in Karnataka vis-a-vis their counterparts in neighbouring states. "A police constable in Kerala at the entry level draws a basic salary of around Rs 14,000 and we are getting that amount as gross salary after 18 years of service," a constable said, adding they were seeking parity with their counterparts.

All employees should take a vow to boot out this government.IAS officers and University teachers take more than 1 lakh rupees salary per month but a police constable who should be ready to work 24 hrs a day, get just ten thousand rupees. The first BJP govt in southern India has cheated govt employees. It is high time employees cheat BJP.
